What a time to be alive with conveniences like Uber when we need a ride or Uber eats when we don’t feel like cooking. In my lifetime there was such thing as letters that you sent in the mail. I actually had a penpal back in those times. I mean it was my cousin, but still, we sent actual letters through the actual mail. It is amazing that writing letters were a thing that existed now that we have email. There is also What’s App. Before What’s App, I ran up my mom’s phone bill trying to stay in contact with this guy I met in Jamaica. This is when people used calling cards. You went to the store and bought cards with minutes when those minutes ran out the call would drop. My little desperate teenage self decided to use the regular phone line when I ran out of minutes and got myself into trouble. Anyway now there is What’s App, Hallelujah and this is how I maintain my long-distance relationship.

The happenings of a Long Journey

I went to Barbados from Kuwait and let me tell you it was a journey for real. It basically took about 36 hours of total travel time. I had two long layovers and 1 long flight. With a journey like this, of course, I have stories.

First, I’m going to start with the fact that the employees at Doha Hamad Airport in Qatar are the most pleasant people I have ever come across at an airport. There is a huge difference between Kuwait’s Airport and Qatar. Besides the actual set up and feel, Qatar is just better by a long shot.

Cheap Flights and Layovers

When planning my trip to Barbados, flights from Dallas were expensive. Google flights really came through with the cheap flights. It looks for the cheapest one-way ticket going and coming. It is very likely you could be on different airlines coming and going, but you can save a lot. Instead of flying straight from Dallas, it was cheaper to get a flight from Miami. I saved about $200 getting two different flights than then flying straight. Read More
